Ingredients (Makes 6–8 Flatbreads)

For the Dough

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 packet (7 g) instant yeast
  • 1 cup warm water (110°F / 45°C)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

For the Garlic and Herb Topping

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Dough

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt.
  3. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil to the flour.
  4. Mix until a sticky dough forms.
  5. Knead on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Step 2: Let the Dough Rise

  1. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl and cover with a damp cloth.
  2. Let it rise in a warm place for 1–1.5 hours or until doubled in size.

Step 3: Preheat Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 220°C (425°F). Place a baking stone or sheet inside if using.

Step 4: Prepare Garlic and Herb Mixture

  1. In a small bowl, combine olive oil or melted butter, minced garlic, rosemary, parsley, oregano, salt, and pepper.

  1. Punch down the dough and divide it into 6–8 equal portions.
  2. Roll each portion into a thin round or oval, about ¼ inch thick.
  3. Place the flatbreads on parchment paper or a floured surface.

Step 6: Add Toppings

  • Brush the top of each flatbread generously with the garlic and herb mixture.
  • Optional: Sprinkle with extra herbs or a pinch of sea salt.

Step 7: Bake

  1. Transfer the flatbreads to the preheated oven or baking stone.
  2. Bake for 10–12 minutes or until golden brown and slightly crisp on the edges.

Step 8: Serve
