Here’s a full recipe for a soft, moist, and flavorful Applesauce Bread perfect for breakfast, snack time, or even as a light dessert. It’s easy to make, and you can customize it with nuts, raisins, or spices.

🍎 Moist Applesauce Bread Recipe

🍞 Yield:

1 loaf (9×5-inch) — about 10 slices

📝 Ingredients:

Dry Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups (190g) all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves or allspice (optional)

Wet Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (240ml) unsweetened applesauce

  • 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar

  • 1/4 cup (50g) brown sugar (light or dark)

  • 1/3 cup (80ml) vegetable oil or melted butter

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Optional Add-ins:

  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans

  • 1/2 cup raisins or dried cranberries

🔪 Directions:

Step 1: Prep the Oven and Pan

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.

Step 2: Mix Dry Ingredients

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together:

    • Flour

    • Baking soda

    • Baking powder

    • Salt

    • Cinnamon

    • Nutmeg

    • Cloves or allspice (if using)

  2. Set aside.

Step 3: Mix Wet Ingredients

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine:

    • Applesauce

    • Granulated sugar

    • Brown sugar

    • Oil or melted butter

    • Eggs

    • Vanilla extract

  2. Whisk until smooth and fully combined.

Step 4: Combine Wet and Dry

  1. Add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture.

  2. Stir just until combined — do not overmix (a few lumps are okay).

  3. Fold in nuts and/or dried fruit, if using.

Step 5: Bake

  1. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.

  2. Bake for 45–55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  3. If the top starts browning too quickly, cover loosely with foil during the last 10 minutes.

Step 6: Cool and Serve

  1. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10–15 minutes.

  2. Remove and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

  3. Enjoy plain, or spread with butter, honey, or cream cheese.

✅ Storage:

  • Store tightly wrapped at room temperature for 2–3 days.

  • Refrigerate for up to 1 week.

  • Freezes well! Wrap in foil and plastic wrap, freeze up to 3 months.

🧠 Health Notes & Benefits:

  • Applesauce adds moisture with less fat and calories.

  • Contains fiber, vitamin C, and natural fruit sugars.

  • Using unsweetened applesauce helps control sweetness.

  • Easily made dairy-free if using oil instead of butter.

🔁 Variations:

  • Make it into muffins: Bake at 350°F for 18–22 minutes.

  • Add apple chunks or shredded carrots for extra texture.

  • Swap some flour with whole wheat flour for a fiber boost.
