  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

For the Sauce:

  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce

  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce

  • 1 tbsp dark soy sauce (for color and depth; optional)

  • 2 tsp sesame oil

  • 1 tbsp brown sugar

  • 1/2 cup chicken broth or water

For the Lo Mein:

  • 10 oz (280g) lo mein noodles (or spaghetti/egg noodles)

  • 2–3 tbsp vegetable oil

  • 4–6 garlic cloves, finely minced

  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger, minced (optional)

  • 1/2 onion, sliced

  • 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced

  • 1 cup shredded carrots

  • 1 cup cabbage (green or napa), thinly sliced

  • 2 green onions, chopped

  • Sesame seeds (for garnish, optional)

🍳 DIRECTIONS

STEP 1: Prepare the Chicken

  1. In a bowl, combine sliced chicken with 1 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tsp cornstarch, and 1/2 tsp black pepper.

  2. Mix well and let it marinate while preparing other ingredients (at least 10-15 minutes).

STEP 2: Make the Sauce

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together:

    • 1/4 cup soy sauce

    • 2 tbsp oyster sauce

    • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce

    • 1 tbsp dark soy sauce (if using)

    • 1 tbsp brown sugar

    • 2 tsp sesame oil

    • 1/2 cup chicken broth (or water)

  2. Set aside.

STEP 3: Cook the Noodles

  1. Boil water in a large pot and cook lo mein noodles according to package instructions (usually 4–5 minutes).

  2. Drain, rinse with cold water, toss with a little oil to prevent sticking, and set aside.

STEP 4: Stir-Fry the Chicken

  1. Heat 1 tbsp oil in a large wok or skillet over medium-high heat.

  2. Add marinated chicken and stir-fry for 4–5 minutes until fully cooked and lightly browned. Remove and set aside.

STEP 5: Stir-Fry the Vegetables & Aromatics

  1. In the same pan, add 1–2 tbsp oil.

  2. Sauté garlic (and ginger, if using) for 30 seconds until fragrant.

  3. Add onion, carrots, bell pepper, and cabbage. Stir-fry for 3–4 minutes until veggies are tender-crisp.

STEP 6: Combine Everything

  1. Return cooked chicken to the pan with vegetables.

  2. Add cooked noodles.

  3. Pour the prepared sauce over everything.

  4. Toss well using tongs until everything is evenly coated and heated through (2–3 minutes).

  5. Add chopped green onions at the end.

STEP 7: Serve

  1. Garnish with sesame seeds and extra green onions if desired.

  2. Serve hot and enjoy your homemade Garlic Chicken Lo Mein!
