Cheesesteak-Stuffed Garlic Bread Loaf

Preparation Time

20 minutes

Cooking Time

25–30 minutes

Servings

4–6

Ingredients

Bread & Garlic Butter

  • French or Italian bread – 1 large loaf

  • Unsalted butter – 4 tablespoons, softened

  • Garlic – 3 cloves, minced

  • Parsley – 1 tablespoon, chopped

  • Salt – ¼ teaspoon

Cheesesteak Filling

  • Beef steak or sirloin – 400 g (14 oz), thinly sliced

  • Onion – 1 medium, thinly sliced

  • Green bell pepper – 1 medium, sliced

  • Mushrooms – ½ cup, sliced (optional)

  • Olive oil – 2 tablespoons

  • Salt – 1 teaspoon

  • Black pepper – ½ teaspoon

  • Worcestershire sauce – 1 teaspoon

Cheese

  • Provolone or mozzarella – 1½ cups, shredded

  • Cheddar (optional) – ½ cup, shredded

Directions

Step 1: Prepare the Bread

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).

  2. Slice the top off the bread loaf and hollow out the inside, leaving 1–2 cm walls.

  3. Mix softened butter, minced garlic, parsley, and salt.

  4. Spread garlic butter inside and on top of the hollowed loaf.

Step 2: Cook the Cheesesteak Filling

  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.

  2. Sauté onions, peppers, and mushrooms for 4–5 minutes until softened.

  3. Add sliced beef, salt, and pepper. Cook until beef is browned.

  4. Stir in Worcestershire sauce and cook 1–2 minutes.

  5. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.

Step 3: Assemble the Loaf

  1. Sprinkle a layer of shredded cheese inside the hollowed bread.

  2. Fill the loaf with the cheesesteak mixture.

  3. Top with remaining cheese.

  4. Place the bread loaf on a baking sheet.

Step 4: Bake

  • Bake uncovered at 180°C (350°F) for 15–20 minutes, until cheese melts and bread is golden.

Step 5: Serve

  • Slice into thick pieces and serve warm.

  • Optionally garnish with extra parsley or a drizzle of garlic butter.

Tips for Best Results

  • Use thinly sliced beef for tender bites.

  • Hollow the bread carefully to avoid breaking the crust.

  • Use a mix of cheeses for gooey, flavorful filling.

  • Serve immediately for the best crusty-cheesy contrast.

Variations

  • Chicken Cheesesteak: Replace beef with thinly sliced chicken breast.

  • Spicy Version: Add sliced jalapeños or hot sauce to the filling.

  • Italian Twist: Use sautéed spinach, sun-dried tomatoes, and mozzarella.

  • Mini Loaves: Prepare individual-sized stuffed bread rolls.

Storage

  • Best eaten fresh.

  • Leftovers can be wrapped and refrigerated for 1–2 days.

  • Reheat in oven for 10 minutes to restore crispiness.
