Here’s a soft, moist, classic Corn Bread recipe—simple, reliable, and perfect with soups, stews, or barbecue 🌽🍞


Classic Homemade Corn Bread

🧾 Ingredients

  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ⅔ cup sugar (reduce to ⅓ cup if you prefer less sweet)
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup milk (or buttermilk for extra moisture)
  • 2 large eggs
  • ⅓ cup vegetable oil or melted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)

👩‍🍳 Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Oven

  • Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
  • Grease an 8×8-inch baking pan or a cast-iron skillet.

Step 2: Mix Dry Ingredients

  • In a bowl, whisk together cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

Step 3: Mix Wet Ingredients

  • In another bowl, whisk milk, eggs, oil (or butter), and vanilla until smooth.

Step 4: Combine

  • Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients.
  • Stir gently until just combined.
    Do not overmix—small lumps are okay.

Step 5: Bake

  • Pour batter into prepared pan.
  • Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until golden and a toothpick comes out clean.

Step 6: Cool & Serve

  • Let rest for 10 minutes, then slice and serve warm.

  • Savory cornbread: Skip vanilla & sugar, add ½ cup shredded cheese + chopped jalapeños.
  • Extra moist: Replace milk with buttermilk.
  • Southern-style: Use only cornmeal, no flour (denser texture).
  • Honey cornbread: Replace sugar with ½ cup honey.
