Classic Deviled Ham Salad

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cooked ham, finely chopped (or ground)

  • ⅓ to ½ cup mayonnaise (adjust to taste)

  • 1½ teaspoons yellow mustard or Dijon

  • 1 tablespoon sweet pickle relish (or finely chopped pickles)

  • 1–2 teaspoons hot sauce (optional, to taste)

  • ¼ teaspoon paprika

  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

  • ⅛ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)

  • 1 tablespoon finely minced onion (optional)

  • 1 tablespoon minced celery (optional, for crunch)

  • Salt to taste (usually very little, ham is salty)


Instructions (Step by Step)

  1. Prepare the ham
    Finely chop the ham with a knife or pulse it briefly in a food processor. The texture should be small, even pieces—not paste.

  2. Mix the base
    In a bowl, combine mayonnaise, mustard, and relish. Stir until smooth.

  3. Season
    Add paprika, black pepper, cayenne (if using), and hot sauce. Mix well.

  4. Combine
    Add the chopped ham to the dressing. Stir until evenly coated.

  5. Add crunch (optional)
    Fold in minced onion and celery if you like a bit of texture.

  6. Taste & adjust
    Adjust mayo for creaminess, mustard for tang, or hot sauce for heat.

  7. Chill
    Cover and refrigerate for 30–60 minutes to let flavors blend.
