Here’s a classic, comforting recipe for Pork Chops and Scalloped Potatoes, baked together in a creamy sauce—perfect for a family dinner 🥔🥩


Pork Chops and Scalloped Potatoes (One-Pan Bake)

🧾 Ingredients (Serves 4)

Pork Chops

  • 4 bone-in or boneless pork chops (about 2–2.5 cm / 1 inch thick)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp garlic powder

Scalloped Potatoes

  • 4–5 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced

Creamy Sauce

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk (warm)
  • ½ cup chicken or beef broth
  • 1 tsp salt (adjust to taste)
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp dried thyme or parsley
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg (optional)

Optional Topping

  • ½ cup shredded cheddar or mozzarella cheese

👩‍🍳 Instructions

Step 1: Season & Brown Pork Chops

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Season pork chops with salt, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder.
  3. Heat a skillet with a little oil and sear chops 2–3 minutes per side until lightly golden.
    (This step adds flavor but can be skipped if needed.)

Step 2: Make the Cream Sauce

  1. In the same skillet, melt butter.
  2. Whisk in flour and cook 1 minute.
  3. Slowly add warm milk and broth, whisking constantly.
  4. Season with salt, pepper, thyme, and nutmeg.
  5. Simmer until slightly thickened (3–4 minutes).

Step 3: Assemble

  1. Grease a baking dish.
  2. Layer half the sliced potatoes and onions.
  3. Pour over a little sauce.
  4. Add remaining potatoes and onions.
  5. Place pork chops on top.
  6. Pour remaining sauce over everything.
  7. Sprinkle cheese on top if using.

Step 4: Bake

  1. Cover tightly with foil.
  2. Bake for 60 minutes.
  3. Remove foil and bake 15–20 minutes more until potatoes are tender and top is golden.

🍽️ Serving Suggestions

  • Serve with steamed green beans, peas, or a fresh salad.
  • Spoon extra sauce over the pork chops for maximum flavor.

⭐ Tips & Variations

  • Extra tender chops: Use bone-in pork chops.
  • No flour: Thicken sauce with cornstarch (1½ tbsp mixed with cold milk).
  • Faster version: Parboil potato slices for 5 minutes.
  • Cheesy version: Add Parmesan + cheddar mix.
