Posted on December 29, 2025 by Danish Kaleem

Here’s a Soft Apple Cake recipe—moist, tender, and full of warm apple flavor 🍎🍰. Perfect for tea time, desserts, or a cozy treat.

🍎 Soft Apple Cake

⏱️ Prep Time: 15 minutes

⏱️ Bake Time: 40–45 minutes

🍽️ Serves: 8–10

🧾 Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour – 1½ cups

  • Baking powder – 1½ teaspoons

  • Baking soda – ½ teaspoon

  • Salt – ¼ teaspoon

  • Ground cinnamon – 1 teaspoon

  • Ground nutmeg – ¼ teaspoon

  • Unsalted butter – ½ cup (1 stick), softened

  • Granulated sugar – ¾ cup

  • Brown sugar – ¼ cup

  • Eggs – 2 large

  • Vanilla extract – 1 teaspoon

  • Sour cream or yogurt – ½ cup

  • Apples – 2 medium, peeled, cored, and chopped or grated

  • Optional: chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans) – ½ cup

👩‍🍳 Directions (Step-by-Step)

Step 1: Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan

  • Preheat oven to 175°C / 350°F.

  • Grease a 9-inch round or square cake pan and line with parchment paper (optional).

Step 2: Mix Dry Ingredients

  • In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

  • Set aside.

Step 3: Cream Butter and Sugars

  • In a large bowl, beat butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy (about 2–3 minutes).

  • Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.

  • Stir in vanilla extract.

Step 4: Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients

  • Add dry ingredients alternately with sour cream or yogurt, mixing gently until just combined.

  • Fold in chopped or grated apples and nuts if using.

Tip: Don’t overmix; this keeps the cake soft and tender.

Step 5: Bake

  • Pour batter into prepared pan and smooth the top.

  • Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Step 6: Cool and Serve

  • Let the cake cool in the pan for 10–15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

  • Serve warm or at room temperature. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.

🌟 Tips for a Moist Cake

  • Use grated apples for extra moisture.

  • Sour cream or yogurt keeps the cake soft.

  • Optional: Add a drizzle of caramel sauce for extra sweetness.

🔁 Variations

  • Spiced Apple Cake: Add ½ teaspoon ground ginger or cloves.

  • Apple Cinnamon Swirl: Mix 2 tablespoons brown sugar + 1 teaspoon cinnamon and swirl into batter.

  • Apple Nut Cake: Add chopped walnuts or pecans for crunch.

  • Mini Cakes: Bake in muffin tins for individual servings (reduce baking time to 20–25 minutes).

❄️ Storage

  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for 2–3 days.

  • Refrigerate for up to 5 days.

  • Can be frozen for up to 1 month (wrap tightly).
